Burned $450 on a PMP prep bootcamp that did nothing for me

I signed up for a weekend PMP bootcamp in Charlotte back in March. Paid $450 upfront because the instructor promised a 95% pass rate. Problem was, the class just read slides word for word and gave us outdated practice tests. I failed the actual exam by 12 points and now I'm out the money plus the retake fee. Has anyone else found better luck with self-study using the PMI study guide instead of these pricey classes?
