Took me 3 months to find out why my reddit account kept getting shadowbanned after talking about a certain youtuber
Back in January I hopped in a thread about that cooking channel guy who got kicked off for the fake giveaway thing. Posted what I thought was a normal take, just saying he handled the apology video weird. Woke up the next day and my comment had 2 upvotes and zero replies. Thought nothing of it. Two weeks later I noticed none of my comments on any sub were getting replies anymore. Not a single one.
Figured I got caught in some spam filter so I made a new account. Same deal within a week. Made a third one and this time I tested it, posted in a tiny sub with like 400 people and asked my buddy to check if he could see it. He could not. So it was me, not the subs.
What it actually was: the auto mod bot flags accounts under 30 days that comment in the celeb drama subs, because of all the burner accounts people make to defend their faves. Nothing to do with the youtuber at all. I emailed the mod team after the third account and a mod finally replied and said they see maybe 200 alts a day doing exactly what I was doing. Took 3 months and 3 accounts to get one email back.
So now I lurk for a month before I say anything. Anyone else get caught by an automod like that and assume it was something way more dramatic?
