Lost 8 months of bookkeeping trying to archive a canceled YouTuber's deleted vids before his comeback
Hey, just a heads up for anyone here who likes to keep receipts on canceled creators. I spent 8 months trying to pull together an offline archive of a commentary YouTuber's vids after he got booted in 2021, thinking it would take a weekend with the Wayback Machine. It took until last March because half his uploads were members-only, reuploads had mismatched thumbnails, and I had to cross-check 63 files against fan wikis just to confirm which apology video came first. Cost me $71 in cloud storage and a lot of late nights after work. If anyone has a simpler way to sort reupload chaos, please tell me, because I still have 14 files I cannot place on his comeback timeline.
How do you even keep track of a timeline for someone whose whole catalog got scattered like that? I used to think the Wayback Machine was all you needed for this kind of thing (you know, just plug in the channel URL and call it a day), but your post honestly changed my mind on that. Members-only uploads and swapped thumbnails are a nightmare because the archive sites don't always flag which version is which, so you end up comparing two files that look the same but aren't. I don't have a magic fix, but matching upload dates against the fan wiki's edit history helped me once, since wiki editors usually log stuff within hours of it going up. Fourteen files left is rough, but that's way closer than most people ever get.
