Just realized the whole 'canceled for old tweets' thing got way out of hand after 2020

I remember when a celeb could say something dumb and people would just move on. But after that summer it felt like everyone was digging through 10 years of social media. Saw it happen to a small YouTuber I followed in 2021, someone found a tweet from 2012 where she used a bad word and she lost like 50,000 subscribers in a week. Her apology video was just her crying in her car. I was skeptical that the whole cancel culture thing was just a mob mentality at first, but watching that made me realize it's real and it's brutal. Has anyone else seen a smaller creator get wrecked by something ancient?
