Can we talk about the 47 viewer stream that made me rethink the whole cancel thing?
Last Tuesday I checked on a guy who got run off in 2021 and his comeback stream had 47 people in chat, and I honestly expected a hate mob instead. I sat there for an hour and most of the comments were just folks asking where he'd been and cracking jokes about his old haircut. I used to think once you get canceled there's no way back, but watching him thank the same 12 names over and over kind of got to me. Now I'm wondering if the loud part of the internet is way smaller than it sounds. Has anyone else quietly changed their mind after watching a comeback that didn't turn into a circus?
I saw a piece on NPR about how the average livestream viewer count for comeback attempts is usually under 100, which shocked me since Twitter makes it feel like millions are watching. Makes sense that the mob is mostly bots and people chasing clout, not real folks who actually care.
