What Happened When I Called Out a Food Blogger for Fake Recipes
I got into it with a popular baking influencer last month after she posted a cake that looked perfect but the recipe seemed wrong. I commented politely asking if she actually baked it herself or just staged it for the photo. She replied with a long rant calling me a hater and her fans piled on calling me jealous. But then three other bakers replied saying they tried her recipe and it flopped completely. So was she really canceled or just exposed for being dishonest? I think there's a difference between holding someone accountable and just jumping on a bandwagon. Where do you all draw that line?

I mean, it's kind of the same thing I see everywhere now, not just with food blogs. Like, people will post a perfect looking desk setup or a "clean with me" video that's totally staged, and when you point out that the reality probably looks different, you're the bad guy. It's like we've decided that "aspirational" is more important than honest, and calling it out feels like breaking some unspoken rule. Honestly, idk if it's canceling or just people finally catching on, but it does make you wonder how much of what we see online is just a dressed up lie.

My neighbor's "perfect" garden is half weeds if you look close enough.
