That one tweet from a food blogger last week got her canceled for saying store-bought pesto is better than homemade

I used to jump on the bandwagon and hate on anyone who questioned homemade recipes but after making my own pesto for 6 months straight and realizing it costs $12 a jar in ingredients I totally get why she said it, has anyone else had a shift like that over a dumb food opinion?

Tbh I totally get where you're coming from. Homemade pesto is amazing but the price of pine nuts alone is criminal now. I made it once from scratch and ended up spending like $15 just to get that fresh basil at the grocery store and it was gone in two meals. Meanwhile I can grab a jar of classico for $4 and it lasts me a month. The elitism around homemade everything gets old fast when half the people judging are probably buying pre-minced garlic anyway. It's wild how fast people turn on someone for saying something practical instead of following the "homemade is always better" script. Good pesto is good pesto no matter where it comes from.

Totally agree with you on this. I had the exact same realization after trying to be a "from scratch" person for a while and realizing I was spending way too much time and money on stuff that tasted like 10% better. The gatekeeping around food is SO exhausting, especially when most people are just trying to get dinner on the table without going broke. If someone prefers store-bought pesto because it's cheap and convenient, that's a totally valid choice. I honestly think the food snobs who jump on people for that are just insecure about their own cooking skills. It's nice to see someone willing to say the quiet part out loud without pretending they're better than everyone else.
