I tried to defend a 2015 tweet from my favorite comedian last week and got ratioed so hard my own cousin screenshotted it, which made me wonder if we've all just forgotten how to sit with a disagreement for more than 3 hours.

The real shift is that we used to treat a bad take as a starting point for a conversation, not a final verdict on someone's character. Now the archive is forever, and the context is gone, so a joke from six years ago gets judged like it was said yesterday in a courtroom. Nobody's allowed to grow or change their mind publicly anymore, because the receipts exist and the mob moves faster than the apology. My cousin screenshotting me wasn't even about the comedian, it was about winning a family argument with proof. That's the part that bugs me, we've turned disagreement into evidence collection instead of actual exchange.
