Cancel culture used to be just yelling at each other in a bar bathroom in 2007

I miss when getting 'canceled' meant your friend group was mad at you for a week, not a global pile-on with news articles. I spent $60 on a domain name in 2019 to defend myself from a weird rumor and it did absolutely nothing.

Honestly though, the stakes are way higher now and that's actually a good thing. Back in 2007 you could say some really messed up stuff and nobody would ever find out. Now people have to actually think before they post because the whole internet might see it.

Maybe it's just me but having a public record of every mistake doesn't really teach anyone anything, it just ruins lives.

Honestly the best thing you can do is just stop feeding the fire. I had someone try to cancel me back in 2020 and my dumbest move was posting a whole thread trying to explain myself. Just mute the keywords, tell your close friends what happened, and wait it out. The internet gets bored faster than you'd think if you don't keep giving them new drama to chew on.
