Shoutout to the guy at the Lake Tahoe campground who showed me how to actually stake down my tent fly

I watched him tighten the guylines on his tent after a gust, and it finally clicked that I'd been letting mine hang loose for years, which explained all the flapping and condensation I'd been dealing with.

Oh man, that's such a game changer. I did the same thing for way too long, just kinda hooking the lines over a rock. Actually pulling them tight makes a crazy difference in the wind.

My old tent spent a whole weekend in a tree because I did that. What took you so long to figure it out?

My buddy Jake watched his brand new tent turn into a kite at a festival last year. He just looped the guy lines around his cooler and called it good. A gust came through and the whole thing lifted off, poles bent and all. He spent the night in his car while his tent was wrapped around a fence post half a mile away. Proper stakes are non-negotiable after seeing that mess.
