Rant: My buddy told me to skip the cheap tent stakes and I learned the hard way.
He said, 'Those aluminum ones will bend in any real wind,' and sure enough, a gust in the Pine Barrens last month snapped three of them. What's a good, heavy-duty stake brand that won't break the bank?

Yeah, the Pine Barrens will do that. I switched to MSR Groundhogs years ago.

Had a Groundhog bend on me in the Catskills last fall. Hit a hidden rock plate under some leaf litter. The tip just folded over. For soft ground they're great, but I've found they can't handle a surprise like a solid stake can. Still keep a couple in my kit for pure sand or snow.

I had that exact Groundhog issue like @thompson.nathan. Switched to MSR Cyclones for mixed ground and they've been solid.
