Overheard a guy at REI swearing by a $12 camp stool over my $150 chair, so I tried it

My back hurt for two days after using that tiny stool on a rocky site in Yosemite last weekend, but honestly it packed down so small I'm torn, has anyone else found a middle ground between comfort and portability?
