My old sleeping bag hit 250 nights out and it's still going strong

I just looked at my gear log and my trusty down bag has seen 250 nights in the woods, from the Smokies to the Sierras. I bought it on a big sale 8 years ago and figured it would last maybe 5 seasons. The baffles are flat in spots and it's lost some loft, but it still keeps me warm down to its 20-degree rating. I'm honestly shocked it made it this far without a major failure like a ripped zipper. Has anyone else pushed a piece of gear way past what you thought it could handle?

My 15-year-old rain jacket is basically duct tape now.

Yeah, I read a gear review blog a while back where this guy had a 15-year-old backpack. The hip belt was totally frayed and one buckle was held on with a zip tie, but he refused to retire it because the frame was still perfect. It's wild how some stuff just becomes part of you. My first stove is like that, all scratched up and the piezo lighter died years ago, but it still boils water every time.

Used to be all about the newest gear, always chasing the lighter weight or the latest feature. Reading what @dylanmurray said about that backpack and stove really hit me. It's not about the specs on paper, it's about the trust you build with a piece of gear that never lets you down. That reliability becomes way more valuable than a shiny new thing. I finally get why people hang onto stuff that looks beat up but still works perfectly.
