My $14 rain fly stakes bent in 20 mph wind, so I tried garden nails
Last storm at Lost Maples State Park, every cheap stake pulled out by 2am and my tent floor soaked. Has anyone else switched to 8 inch steel landscape pins instead of buying the fancy ones?

Wait, were the garden nails actually holding better at Lost Maples, or did you just get lucky with drier ground that night? Because that black clay turns to grease when it's wet, and I've seen 8 inch pins spin right out of it like a corkscrew. Bent stakes usually mean you hit a rock seam or the wind was whipping the fly hard enough to torque them sideways. What did the ground actually look like when you pulled them?
