I finally had a perfect campsite day at Lake Tahoe... then the raccoons showed up

Last Saturday at Fallen Leaf Campground near South Lake Tahoe, everything was going great - clear skies, perfect temp, and I got my tent pitched in 12 minutes flat. Made myself some chili mac and was feeling like a pro. Then a family of raccoons came through at dusk, knocked over my entire cooler, and one of them ran off with my favorite spork. Has anyone else dealt with wildlife going after your gear like that?

Man that spork story hits close to home. I lost my favorite pair of camp scissors the same way up at Lake Almanor last year. Raccoons got into my dry bag and just took them, I found the scissors three months later in a bush near the same spot all rusted out. Crows are crafty too, I had a whole bag of trail mix stolen by a blue jay one time. But honestly raccoons are the worst, they work in teams like little bandits.

...so I started hanging my cooler from a tree branch with a rope about 10 feet up. I use one of those cheap carabiners to clip it on so the raccoons can't knock it down. Also switched to metal utensils after I lost a good spoon to a crow up at Shasta.
