Friend swore by an old military tent he found at a yard sale

He kept telling me it would outlast any modern tent because they 'don't make em like that anymore'. Took it out last month in some light rain and the seams just started leaking everywhere, soaked my sleeping bag by 2 AM. Anyone else ever get burned by vintage gear advice?

Vintage gear advice is rarely worth the mildew.

Gotta say, I'm not sure this is that big of a deal honestly. @mila_flores8 basically nailed it - old gear is old gear, it's not magic. You took a 50+ year old tent out in rain and it leaked, that's just being realistic about stuff that's lived its life. People act like something being "vintage" makes it bulletproof when it can just be old and crusty. Probably it was stored in a shed for decades and the coating got brittle, that's not a conspiracy against old military gear. I'd say chalk it up as a learning experience and move on, not some huge burned-by-advice moment.

Old military gear just means it's old weatherproofing.
