Can we talk about buying a cheap tent versus spending more?
I bought a $60 tent from a big box store last summer for a weekend trip up near Lake Tahoe. First night had a light drizzle and water was seeping through the floor by morning. My buddy had a $250 tent from a outdoor brand and stayed bone dry the whole time. Now I'm wondering if you really need to spend that much or if I just picked a bad cheap one. What's your experience with budget tents holding up in real weather?

Tbh "did you get a cheap tent or just a bad one" is basically the exact question I've been asking myself ever since that rainy night. I feel your pain though, nothing worse than waking up in a puddle after you thought you saved some cash. Honestly I think there's a middle ground somewhere, like you don't need to drop $400 on a tent but $60 is probably pushing it too far in the other direction. My buddy's tent held up great but he also spent a lot of time researching before he bought, so maybe it's not just the price tag but how well it's made for the money. Ngl I'm still salty about that trip, but at least now I know not to grab the cheapest option off the shelf.
