Bought a cheap $40 sleeping bag off Amazon and froze my butt off at 45 degrees in Yosemite last fall.
I figured a budget bag would be fine for mild weather but the insulation was basically paper thin and I ended up shivering all night. Has anyone else had a bad experience with budget sleeping bags failing when you need them most?

I picked up a Kelty Cosmic 20 on a big sale for around $80 and it's been solid down to the 30s with a good base layer... really wish I'd spent that extra money upfront instead of freezing.

lol "insulation was basically paper thin" - that reminds me of the time I bought a "winter" sleeping bag at a gas station in a panic cause my planned campsite fell through. Thought I was being smart grabbing something warm on the fly. Ended up wrapping myself in my car's floor mats just to get some sleep. The bag was basically a thin blanket with a zipper. Never again. I still get a little twitchy when someone says "budget sleeping bag" lol.

Heh, fair enough but sometimes cheap gear teaches you better lessons than expensive stuff ever could.
