TIL Japan Hoya glass in Canon FD lenses is way harder to find than German Schott glass

Was cleaning a set of 50mm f/1.4 lenses last week and noticed the Hoya version had a haze that wouldn't budge even after 3 tries with solvent. Is there a trick to getting that coating clean without scratching it?

Guess that haze is there permanently now.

Tried scrubbing mine with a mix of dawn and white vinegar on a soft sponge. Let it sit for like ten minutes before rinsing. Took a couple rounds but the haze lightened up enough that I stopped noticing it.

Honestly @nancygrant that sounds more like old grease than haze, probably still usable.
