That tiny spring in a Nikon FM2 shutter assembly cost me a whole afternoon

I dropped it and it vanished into the carpet. Spent four hours with a magnet and a flashlight before I found it stuck to a lamp base. Anyone have a better system for keeping those little parts contained?

Four hours for a spring? Seems a bit much.

Honestly, four hours sounds about right for that kind of hunt. Those tiny springs can fly across a room and land anywhere. A magnet was a smart move, but working inside a big plastic bag helps keep everything from escaping in the first place. What kind of setup do you have on your workbench?

Yeah, the plastic bag trick is genius, I wish I'd thought of that before. My setup is just a super cluttered desk with a bright light, so I basically spent three of those four hours just moving piles of junk around looking for where it shot off to.
