Swapped helicoids on a 50mm lens and the focus ring locked up solid
Tried using a generic helicoid grease from Amazon on a Canon FD rebuild last month. Ended up with gummy residue that seized the ring at infinity. Anyone found a specific grease brand that holds up better?

Did you try something like Super Lube? I heard someone say the NyoGel stuff works way better for camera helicoids but you gotta be real careful not to use too much.

Yeah I actually saw @the_eric mention the NyoGel stuff in another thread too, heard it keeps helicoids smooth way longer than the cheap grease. Did you try it yet or still just looking into it?

I mean is it really that deep lol. I've been using basic white lithium grease on my old M42 lenses for years and they still turn smooth as butter. Unless you're shooting in a sandstorm or something I doubt the average person would ever notice the difference.
