Spent 6 months aligning every focus screen with the mirror at rest before someone at the Riverside meetup mentioned collimation
I picked up a Nikon F2 from a pawn shop in Riverside last fall that had a slight front focus and I figured the screen seating was off, so I shimmed it three separate times across 6 months. Then a guy at the monthly repair meetup glanced at it and said "you never checked collimation at the film plane, right?" and I just stood there. Sure enough the mirror was hanging about 0.3mm low at rest and every adjustment I made was chasing the wrong end of the light path. Now I want to know how many other people went years without checking the mirror stop before touching anything else.
