Shoutout to the older guy at the swap meet who fixed my viewfinder haze

He told me he'd been cleaning those with a drop of lighter fluid on a cotton swab for forty years... something about the specific evaporation rate. Anyone have a gentler modern alternative that works as well?

That "specific evaporation rate" thing is actually a solid point. Maybe just use the lighter fluid but with a tiny, tiny drop on a microfiber cloth instead of a swab. Less risk of it getting somewhere it shouldn't.

Yeah, the microfiber cloth trick saved my controller last time.

Oh man, I gotta back up @jakel36 on this one. I tried the microfiber cloth trick with lighter fluid on a grungy Xbox One controller (sticky A button drove me nuts), and it worked way better than I expected. The key is to put just one drop on the corner of the cloth, then kinda dab and swipe at the sticky area real gentle. No soaking, no dripping, no worries about fluid seeping down inside the trigger well or under the thumbstick. I was nervous at first, but the microfiber really holds onto the fluid and lets you control exactly where it goes. Totally saved me from having to take the whole damn controller apart, which I hate doing.
