Serious question, is it worth fixing old shutters or just swapping them out?
I was at a repair shop in Portland last week and saw a guy arguing with the owner over a 1970s Canon shutter assembly that was seized up solid, he wanted it fixed but the owner said it would cost more than a replacement body. The owner quoted him $180 just for labor on a camera worth maybe $200 max. Would you try to save the old shutter or just tell the customer to buy another used body?

Would a new body cost much less than the repair? In my experience, old shutters are only worth saving if the camera has sentimental value.

Right on about the sentimental value thing. I've swapped shutters before and honestly, it's more about the hassle of finding a donor body that works. Sometimes you get lucky and find a cheap parts camera on eBay, but that's a gamble too.
