Lost $80 on a lens cleaning kit that scratched my front element
Bought this ultrasonic cleaning solution set off Amazon (you know, one of those no-name brands) because I thought I was saving money. Followed the instructions to the letter for a dusty 50mm f/1.4. Ended up with micro scratches all over the coating - looked like someone took fine grit sandpaper to it. Had to send it to a pro for repolishing, which cost me another $150. Has anyone else had bad luck with those off-brand cleaning kits?

Buddy of mine tried that exact same kit and ruined his vintage 35mm.

Makes sense honestly. Those all-in-one kits come with cheap chemicals that aren't even fresh half the time. Seen way too many people just dump powder straight into the tank without mixing it right first. A proper developing setup is cheaper to piece together yourself and you won't wreck a good roll that way.

Bought a "vintage" camera off eBay once and it had mold in the lens.
