Heard a repair guy say shutter counts are useless. I'm starting to buy it.

I always thought high shutter count meant a camera was near death. But then I read a test from a lab in Ohio showing a Nikon D800 still hitting 95% accuracy at 400,000 clicks, way past its rated life. How many of you actually check actuations before buying used gear anymore?

Oh come on, is shutter count really that big of a deal? I've seen beat-up cameras with low counts that had more issues than a high-mileage one that was treated well. At this point I barely even check it unless the price is suspiciously low.

But honestly I feel like shutter count tells you way more than people give it credit for. A high count means that mechanism is that much closer to failing, and that's not a cheap fix on most bodies.
