Had to choose between ultrasonic and hand cleaning for a vintage shutter
Last month I got a 1960s Praktina with a shutter that sounded like a bag of gravel. I had to pick between dropping it in the ultrasonic or doing the whole thing by hand with lighter fluid and Q-tips. Went with the ultrasonic since I'm lazy, but three minutes later I had a loose screw rattling around in the tank and the shutter was even worse. Shoulda just stuck to hand cleaning. Anyone else had an ultrasonic disaster with old leaf shutters?

Dropped a Compur shutter in lighter fluid for 10 minutes, worked like new.

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a Synchro-Compur from the 1950s. Three minutes in the ultrasonic and a tiny spring popped off and just vanished. Took me two hours with a magnet and a flashlight to fish it out. Then the shutter speeds were all over the place, like 1/2 second becoming a full second. Hand cleaned it later with lighter fluid and it was fine. That ultrasonic really just shook things loose without actually cleaning anything. What brand of lighter fluid did you end up using for the hand method?
