Had an old Yashica-Mat and a Mamiya C330 on the bench last week

Been shooting and fixing TLRs for about 12 years now and I always leaned toward the Mamiya because of the interchangeable lenses. But fixing up that Yashica for a customer in Portland made me remember how much smoother the winding mechanism feels on the older ones. The Mamiya has better features on paper but that Yashica just feels right. Anyone else find themselves liking a simpler camera over a more advanced one?

It's funny how that works. You see it everywhere, not just cameras. My buddy swears by his old Ford F150 with manual windows and crank handles over the new computerized trucks we work with. The newest stuff has more features but loses that simple satisfaction of something that just works without fighting you. There's something to be said for a tool that does one thing well and doesn't try to be a Swiss army knife.

Laugh while I break my thumbnail trying to pry open a frozen window on my 2012 Civic. @ray363 your buddy's got the right idea though. I've got power windows in my car and half the time the driver side one decides it's taking a nap when I need to pay a toll. Give me the crank any day.

Can't believe your buddy actually prefers cranking windows over pushing a button like some kind of caveman.
