Had a Nikon F3 shutter crap out on a wedding shoot in Boise and I fixed it with a paper clip
So this happened about 6 weeks ago at a wedding in Boise, second shooter gig, and around hour 4 the shutter on my F3 just locks up mid frame. Mirror stuck up, nothing works, and the couple is about to do their first dance. Hundred people watching. I popped the bottom plate off with a dime, poked around the wind lever gears, and jammed a bent paper clip in there to trip the release lever so I could get through the rest of the night on manual. Got maybe 40 keepers with it held together like that. Thing is, my old boss at the shop in Twin Falls would've laughed at me for even carrying an F3 in 2024, but he also taught me the paper clip trick back around 2009 and I never forgot it. Nowadays everyone just swaps bodies or shoots on a phone as backup. I half want to tear into it proper this weekend, clean the gears, check the curtain tension, but part of me also wants to frame that paper clip. Any of you still running old film bodies on paid gigs, or am I the last one out here?
