Finally hit 500 shutter repairs this past weekend
I was just counting up my repair logs from the last 6 years and realized I crossed 500 shutter fixes. That number surprised me because I still remember my first one, an old Pentax Spotmatic that took me 3 hours just to get the timing right. Most of those came from a single camera shop in Portland that sends me their backlog. Has anyone else kept track of a specific repair milestone that snuck up on you?

Those log numbers really add up over time. I heard a podcast with a guy who does Leica repairs and he said he hit 1,000 shutter fixes in under 4 years but I don't see how that's possible unless you're doing nothing else. My own tracking started as a way to remember what parts I needed to order but now I'm the same as graceblack, I can look at a camera for 2 minutes and already know if the shutter is one of the common failures. The Spotmatic I started on taught me more than any YouTube video could, though.

Keep detailed logs, you'll spot which shutters fail most often before they even hit your bench.
