Cleaned 60 years of gunk off a Rolleiflex with naphtha and it beat my ultrasonic cleaner hands down
The ultrasonic left a haze on the shutter blades on my first try, but a $6 can of naphtha and some q-tips got the slow speed escapement moving smooth again, has anyone else had ultrasonic cleaners do more harm than good on old German leaf shutters?
Buddy of mine ran his Rolleiflex shutter through an ultrasonic bath and it came out worse. The blades had this cloudy film and two of them stuck together after drying. He ended up soaking the whole thing in naphtha and working the blades with a small brush to get the old lube out. Said the click came back cleaner than it ever was before the ultrasonic.
