A customer told me my CLA actually made their lens worse and they were right

Had a guy bring back a 50mm f1.4 last month saying the focus ring was tighter after I cleaned it. I brushed him off at first but he was super nice about it and showed me the difference. Turns out I over greased the helicoid and it was gumming up in cold weather. Now I only use a tiny dot of grease and spread it thin with a brush. Has anyone else had issues with too much helicoid grease causing problems?

Oh man, I totally did the exact same thing with a vintage 35mm and it was a sticky nightmare.

Oh "sticky nightmare" is exactly right. But just to be super pedantic, I think that particular model actually uses a different kind of lubrication than the usual 35mm cameras. It's more of a grease situation, not oil. Idk, maybe it's just me but that makes it even harder to clean out when it gets all gummy.
