Thought domino joints were too fussy for shop cabinets until a guy at the Tacoma woodworking show called my drawers 'sloppy'
I was building a run of shop drawers last month and using plain butt joints with screws and glue, figuring nobody would ever see them. The guy was watching me dry fit one at a booth and said flat out, 'those corners will rack in a year, you're better off spending the extra 10 minutes on a domino.' I tried it on the next 6 drawers and the square went dead on every one, so what's the real cutoff for you guys on where you use loose tenons and where you just run screws?
you're better off spending the extra 10 minutes" hits home, I built a whole shop cart with pocket screws last winter and the top still wobbles. Turns out the 10 minutes is cheaper than redoing it, go figure.
