Spent 30 minutes aligning drawer fronts before I tried the painter's tape trick

I was at a job in Cleveland last week, fighting with some shaker-style drawer fronts that just wouldn't sit flush. I must have pulled them off 4 times and got nowhere. A buddy told me to put a strip of blue tape across the face, mark the hinge holes, and then drill through the tape. Took me 12 minutes for all 6 drawers and they lined up perfect. Has anyone else used tape for layout work like that, or do you have a better system?

Yeah, just make the holes and get on with it. It ain't brain surgery.

so did you tape all the drawers at once or one at a time? i've done it but i always worry the tape shifts between holes.
