I finally started using a story stick on site last month

Had a client who kept changing measurements every time I showed up, and I was getting tired of running back to the shop. An old timer told me to just mark everything directly on a stick instead of writing numbers down, and it saved me like three trips on that job alone. Anyone else work off story sticks or do you just trust your tape?

Man that is exactly the kind of hack that saves your whole week. I had a similar situation with a set of stairs where the homeowner kept tweaking the rise on me. Grabbed a furring strip and marked every single step direct on site. Never woulda caught those tiny changes with just numbers on paper.

Buddy of mine had a customer keep changing the countertop overhang while he was installing cabinets. He just marked the measurements on a scrap 2x4 with a Sharpie and held it up every time they changed their mind. Saved him from remeasuring three times.
