Getting a flush inset on a 9-foot run of maple cabinets took me three full days, not the afternoon I planned.

The wood kept moving after I milled it, so every joint needed a custom shim. Anyone have a better method for stable long runs?

Three days for a flush inset is insane, I would have lost my mind. Letting wood acclimate is basic, but it doesn't always stop the movement. That's just the gamble with solid wood.

Man, that sounds like a brutal weekend. My buddy had the same fight with some oak last year, he said it felt like the wood was alive. Did you try letting the boards sit in the room for a while before you even started cutting? He swears by that now, says it lets the wood get used to the air so it stops moving so much. What kind of climate are you working in?

Read somewhere that wood never really stops moving, true?
