Appreciation post: A demo at the Woodworking Show in Atlanta made me finally trust my glue-up clamps
I saw a guy there use a simple winding stick trick to check for twist on a big panel, and now I do it before every single glue-up to save hours of sanding later, has anyone else picked up a simple check like that from a show?

Saw a guy in Charlotte use a flashlight behind a straightedge to check for gaps. Total game changer for me. Now I catch bad joints before the glue even dries.

Isn't that basically just using a winding stick? The light trick works great on a flat surface, but if the board itself has a twist, a straightedge and light won't show it. You need two sticks and to sight across them.

Yeah, that's a solid trick. I always just used a long level before, but the winding stick thing is way more sensitive for the small stuff.
