The phrase 'gaslighting' is now used for everything and it drives me crazy

I saw someone call their friend a gaslighter because they forgot to text back. That's not gaslighting, that's just being flaky. Real gaslighting is serious, like where someone makes you question your own memory. I dealt with that at my old job in Phoenix. My boss told me I approved a budget change, but I never did. Now the word is so watered down nobody takes it seriously. Has anyone else noticed this trend destroying the meaning of terms?

Real gaslighting is serious" - yeah, that part hits hard. I've been through similar stuff and it's rough watching the real meaning get lost like this.

Is it really that deep though?
