That 'let me circle back' trend is getting out of hand at my company

I was sitting in a team meeting yesterday and someone said 'let me circle back' to answer a direct question. Then another person said they'd 'take it offline' before we even had an online discussion. Then someone else said they wanted to 'punt on that' like we were playing football. I counted 8 buzzwords in a 20 minute meeting. It felt like everyone was just throwing around corporate speak to sound busy without actually saying anything. My takeaway is that people are using these terms to avoid committing to answers or decisions. Am I the only one who notices this is getting worse lately?

my friend told me her boss said "let's put a pin in that" 12 times in one meeting and then got mad when someone actually brought a thumbtack. she said the whole room just froze for a second nobody knew if they should laugh or pretend it didnt happen.

My trick is to hold up a pen every time I hear it, that usually kills the habit fast.
