Showerthought: We need to retire 'gaslighting' before it loses all meaning because everyone calls disagreeing now 'gaslighting'

My cousin used the word 'gaslighting' last week when I said her new haircut looked different, and I told her right there that she was stretching the term so thin it might snap, has anyone else noticed people just throwing around serious buzzwords like confetti?

Hold up though, is it really that big of a deal? Like yeah your cousin was wrong about the haircut thing, but people have always grabbed for dramatic words when they feel some type of way. We're just online more now, so we see it happening constantly. Feels less like a crisis and more like normal language drift over time.

Nah @the_holly, the whole point is that watering down words like trauma or abuse makes them useless when you actually need them.
