Serious question, did I fall for a fake buzzword with 'quiet quitting'?

Heard 'quiet quitting' everywhere last month, so I asked my manager if I was doing it wrong by just doing my 9-5 tasks and leaving at 5. Turns out my coworker had been using the term to brag about getting paid for bare minimum work, not the actual definition about setting boundaries. Anyone else find people twisting these terms to mean whatever fits their story?

Yeah that whole term got twisted real fast... sorry you had to deal with that.

Forty bucks for a "compassionate care" t-shirt at the station fundraiser... my buddy still wears it ironically. The whole thing got twisted into some kind of weakness badge when it's really just basic decency between people. You shouldn't have to explain yourself for giving a damn.

Ha, yeah nothing like getting labeled for caring too much, what a problem to have right?
