PSA: My niece used 'ick' wrong and I felt ancient

I was watching TikTok with my 16 year old niece last week and she kept saying 'that gives me the ick' about everything. I thought it just meant something gross but she explained it's more about that sudden feeling of being turned off by someone's small habit. Turns out the term has been around since like the early 2000s on some reality show I never watched. I looked it up on Know Your Meme and apparently it's been trending hard on social media since 2021. Makes me wonder how many other phrases I'm hearing wrong from younger folks. Has anyone else gotten corrected on slang you thought you understood?

Laughed out loud when my nephew told me I was using 'bet' wrong for like a whole year (I thought it meant 'are you sure?' but apparently it means 'for sure'). At this point I'm just nodding along and hoping I'm not embarrassing myself in group chats.

Ha! I'm still trying to figure out if "no cap" means lying or telling the truth.

Wait, so I've been using "bet" completely backwards too? That explains some weird looks I got last month. Honestly at this point I'm just gonna start saying "word" and hope nobody notices.
