Overheard someone at a coffee shop in Austin call everything 'a vibe' and it got old fast
I was sitting at Radio Coffee last Saturday waiting on my order and this guy described his breakfast taco as a vibe, the weather as a vibe, even his phone dying as a vibe. Ngl it made me realize how overused that word has gotten online in the last year or so. People say everything is a vibe now but it barely means anything specific anymore. I remember when it used to describe a mood or atmosphere not just any random thing you like. Tbh I think we need to retire it for a while and let it breathe. Has anyone else noticed how watered down this term has become in real conversations?

DUDE I had the EXACT same experience at Cosmic Cafe last week. Some girl called her iced oat milk latte "such a vibe" and then five minutes later said her phone dying was "a total vibe." It's like people are just using it as a placeholder for anything they remotely like or find annoying. We definitely need to put that word on ice for a good six months at least.

My coworker Sarah had a full meltdown about this last week. She was telling me about her sister's wedding shower where some relative kept saying everything was "giving main character energy" and "serving looks" like every five seconds. Sarah said the poor cousin who was hosting literally whispered "I'm tired" and the relative was like "oh that's giving realness." Now Sarah has banned the word "vibe" from our shared office space for the rest of the year and she's got a little jar on her desk where we each have to put in a dollar if we slip up. Honestly wish more places would adopt that policy, it's aggressive but I respect it.
