Just realized everyone is saying 'ick' now and I hate it
I noticed this term 'the ick' popping up on TikTok around 3 months ago and now my coworkers use it in meetings like 'that report gave me the ick'. At first I thought it was some kind of food thing but its just a way to say something grosses you out. Has anyone else heard this spreading to real life conversations or is it just my office?

Ugh the ick thing drives me nuts too. What worked for me was just straight up telling my friends and coworkers that I think it sounds silly and I wont use it. I said something like 'oh I cant get on board with that one, it makes me feel old' and people actually stopped saying it around me. Funny enough when I stopped fighting it and just casually mentioned my annoyance, a few people admitted they hated it too but felt pressured to use it. Now we all just say 'that weirds me out' instead which feels way more natural. The whole office trend thing is real though, I see it happen with slang all the time at my work. Just be honest about it and you might be surprised how many people agree.

Agree with everything @bettyfox said, I did the same thing with "no cap" at my place and suddenly half my team was like "thank god you said it first". Its wild how one person admitting they hate a term makes everyone else feel safe to drop it too. Now we all just say "for real" and its so much less cringey.

Did you just tell them straight up or did you ease into it? At my last place I flat out told the young guys "bet" makes me want to scream. Said it with a laugh but I meant it. One of them goes "honestly me too but everyone said it." Now we just say "ok" or "sounds good" and nobody's mad about it. Funny how the whole team was just waiting for someone to break first.
