Just caught someone using 'quiet quitting' wrong at a BBQ yesterday
I overheard my neighbor talking about how he's quiet quitting his job but describing it as just doing the bare minimum for 8 years. That phrase originally meant not going above and beyond, not straight up coasting for nearly a decade. Has anyone else noticed people redefining terms to fit their own narrative?

Honestly, my buddy Dave has been calling himself a "freelancer" for five years now but he just does one small graphic design job every few months and lives off his wife's income. Tbh, it's wild how people take a term that means something specific and stretch it until it barely covers what they're doing. Ngl, I heard someone at work say they were "quiet quitting" last week and when I asked what they meant, they said they just stopped answering emails after 5 PM. That's literally just having normal boundaries, not the same thing at all. It's like every trend gets watered down until it loses all meaning.
