Is 'delulu' just a shield now or actual self awareness?

Last week my buddy's 16 year old cousin called herself 'delulu' after admitting she spent $400 on a celebrity meet and greet she can't afford, and she said it like it was a badge of honor... I get that it's playful but it feels like a way to dodge responsibility for bad choices. So is using 'delulu' a healthy way to admit mistakes, or just a trendy excuse to keep making them?
