I heard a kid at the gas station call his friend a 'NPC' and now I can't stop seeing what he meant
So I'm standing in line at the QuikTrip on 5th getting a coffee at like 6am, and these two teenagers are in front of me. One of them drops his phone and the other one just goes, "bro you are such an NPC right now." And the first kid nods like yeah, fair. I had to bite my tongue not to ask what that actually means in that moment. Later I looked it up and it's basically someone who doesn't think for themselves or just acts out a script all day. Which, okay, fine, that tracks for a lot of people I know. But then I started noticing it everywhere online, in comments and in group chats, thrown at people who just repeat what everyone else says. It's a weirdly mean way to call someone boring but also kind of funny. Has anyone else seen this one pop off in the last few months or am I late to it? And does it bug you when people use it just to shut down any normal disagreement?
