It's also a way to make fun of someone without seeming mean. Like you're giving a backhanded compliment.

Yeah, it blew up because it hits a nerve. We're all tired of the same five words getting used for everything online. The real trick is to just stop saying it yourself, even as a joke. It forces you to be more specific, like saying someone looks more confident now, instead of just slapping the "glow up" label on them.
