Heard my niece call a boring party 'mid' and had to look it up

I was visiting family in Phoenix last weekend and my 14-year-old niece said her friend's birthday was 'so mid.' I mean, I had no idea what that meant, I thought it was maybe a new game or something. Turns out it's just slang for something average or mediocre, like a C grade. It's wild how fast these terms spread now, she said all her friends use it. Anyone else hearing 'mid' pop up a lot lately?

It's like a new word pops up every week and suddenly everyone's saying it.
