Heard a teenager say 'it's giving' about a sandwich last week

Was at a deli in Portland and this kid points at a Reuben and goes 'it's giving meat sweats.' Now I can't stop hearing people use 'it's giving' for everything. Has anyone else noticed this phrase popping up in weird places?

Ngl, people are acting like this is some kind of crisis. It's just a stupid phrase kids use, who cares if they say it about a sandwich or a sunset. Everyone's acting like language is being destroyed when really it's just slang evolving like it always does. Feels like a total non-issue to me, honestly.

wright.lisa that bit about "it's just slang evolving like it always does" really hit me. My grandma used to get so mad when I'd say "cool" about everything, she'd go on about how it was disrespectful to call a sunset cool because it was too casual or something. But like, she was just stuck in her own time and language changed anyway. I remember hearing my little cousin describe a really good burger as "literally the best thing ever" and my dad started ranting about how kids don't know what literally means anymore. It's funny because now I catch myself saying "literally" all the time just like she did and nobody cares. So yeah, I totally agree with you here, it's just people getting worked up over nothing.

My younger brother tried to convince me yesterday that a totally burnt piece of toast was "literally the greatest culinary masterpiece of the 21st century." I swear I've become that relative who gets mildly annoyed at slang but then I remember I spent all of 2018 saying "yeet" unironically. So yeah @wright.lisa you're right, we're all just embarrassing ourselves for a few years before the next generation comes along and does the same thing.
